Idaho Lawmaker Suffers Mild Stroke

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Democratic state senator from Boise says she's recovering from a mild stroke but expects to be "standing tall" when the 2014 Legislature begins in January.

Sen. Cherie Buckner-Webb said Monday she was speaking with her son on a video phone call last week when he noticed her face looked unusual and her speech was slurred. Consequently, Webb said she was able to get immediate medical assistance that's bolstered her optimistic prognosis. Signs of a stroke include one side of the face drooping, arm weakness and difficulty speaking.

Webb, who served from 2010 to 2012 in the Idaho House of Representatives before switching to the Senate, said she's surrounded by family and friends and has received excellent professional care. From Boise's North End, she's one of seven Senate Democrats.
