BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The national policy-making body for the federal courts has declared a judicial emergency in Idaho because the state is down to one full-time federal judge and no replacement has been named for an existing vacancy.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Courts made the declaration on Tuesday. U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge took senior status on July 3 after announcing his intentions in September. Idaho's two Republican U.S. Senators, Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, have kept secret the process they've used to review potential nominees, and they haven't confirmed whether they've submitted any names to the White House.

The senators will make a recommendation, but President Barack Obama will select a nominee who must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
