Idaho Highway Officials Hope to Make Jerome Intersection Safer

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The public is invited to attend an open house Tuesday Feb. 24 to discuss a project to widen a portion of U.S. 93 near 400 South Road in Jerome County. The State of Idaho announced plans to improve the safety of the intersection. That section of U.S. 93 is traveled by about 6,500 vehicles per day. The project is slated for construction in 2017. The open house will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game Regional Office at 324 South 417 East, located about two miles north of the Interstate 84 junction and east of Jerome.

ITD staff will be on hand to answer questions and gather comments about proposed widening and improvement project. The primary goal of the work will be to improve safety for the 400 South Road intersection — a high-accident location — and widen the roadway for about one mile.  Illustrations of the project will be available for view with information about project needs, roadway design, right of way needs, and access control.

ITD is collecting input from members of the public about the project and potential issues. The project will comply with the findings of the Final Environmental Assessment approved in 2007. The assessment was completed for U.S. 93 from I-84 to the Idaho 25 junction, and provides guidelines for improvements to the entire corridor.
