Idaho Gun Advocates Rally in Rexburg

REXBURG, Idaho (AP) — More than 400 gun advocates rallied peacefully in eastern Idaho against sweeping federal gun-control proposals made by President Barack Obama. Many carried firearms openly Saturday during the Save Our Second Amendment rally in Rexburg. They gathered at the Madison County Courthouse and walked several blocks to the city’s Tabernacle Civic Center to hear speeches and sign petitions urging lawmakers not to pass gun-control legislation.

Rally organizer Dan Roberts says restricting his right to own a gun threatens the U.S. Constitution. He told the crowd they “need to start acting like sovereign citizens from sovereign states.” Matt Brady of Ashton carried an AR-15 rifle slung over his shoulder and a Glock pistol on his waist. He says he supports the president’s call for more money for mental health programs but is concerned about losing Second Amendment rights.
