IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho Falls man who police say abused a 2-year-old child has been charged with forcible penetration by use of a foreign object and felony injury to a child. The Post Register reports that 29-year-old Leroy Simpson was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Authorities say the investigation began in February after the child's mother brought the toddler to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center because of bruises on his face and torso. Simpson is being held in the Bonneville County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Felony injury to a child carries up to a 10-year prison sentence, while forcible penetration by use of a foreign object has a possible life sentence.
