NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A man and woman from Nampa were arrested and four children are in protective custody after police discovered them living in "deplorable, dirty and potentially dangerous" conditions.

All of the children were under age 8. Police. Sgt. Joe Ramirez tells the Idaho Statesman that officers couldn't find any edible food in the house. He says there was food all over the floor and easy access to drug paraphernalia.

The children's 34-year-old mother and a 43-year-old man were taken into custody on felony and misdemeanor charges that include injury to a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
