MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho company aims to sell more than pet products and commercial pork feed in Taiwan. Jos Zamzow of Meridian's Dynamite Marketing is homing in on the island's high-performance racing pigeon feed market, an industry worth millions in prize money, breeding stock — and even illicit gambling receipts.

Zamzow says he stumbled upon the opportunity while working with existing customers of his company's pet and swine products in Taiwan last December. His company already produces chow for show dogs and Kentucky Derby race horses, so he mixed up a special batch for speedy pigeons to test starting this summer.

Pigeon racing is a big international business. Last month, a buyer in Asia spent $400,000 on a Belgian pigeon. There are even Taiwanese bird-napping gangs who hold champion pigeons for ransom.
