COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Coeur d’Alene officials are considering joining three other Idaho cities in outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Spokesman Review reports that City Councilman Mike Kennedy is drafting an ordinance based on one adopted by Boise last year.

The cities of Sandpoint and Moscow in the last 15 months have passed similar ordinances. The move in Coeur d’Alene comes about a month after state lawmakers denied a formal hearing on a proposal to add the words “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the state’s Human Rights Act.

Kennedy says a group shouldn’t be excluded from full participation and full protection under the law. He says the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Rights asked the council to add the language to the city code.
