MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — No more smoke breaks for city employees in Meridian. KTVB-TV reports the Meridian City Council approved a policy on Tuesday that prohibits city employees from using tobacco or nicotine products during work hours. Human Resources Director Bill Nary says that includes break time. Employees can use tobacco during lunch. Electronic cigarettes are also banned under the policy that took effect Tuesday. Previously employees couldn't smoke in public buildings or parks. The e-cigarette ban has been extended to parks, as well. The policy allows employees to use doctor prescribed or recommended products for a period of 60 days as part of a smoking or tobacco cessation program.
