Christmas is an interesting holiday. During Christmas it's all about the cheer and keeping the joy of the holiday all year long. But if you play a Christmas song  or put up decorations too early people will hate you.

You still get to eat Thanksgiving dinner, and your house actually looks better if you decorate it.

I hear it every year that Christmas stuff should wait until at least after Thanksgiving, but what does it actually matter? You still get to eat Thanksgiving dinner, you aren't missing out on listening to your favorite Thanksgiving songs (since there aren't any), and your house actually looks better if you decorate it.

Stores aren't exempt from this judgement either. But you know what? It doesn't seem like stores care. Each year the Christmas sales start earlier. I was shopping at a hardware store in early October and the Christmas Trees were all set up on the floor and the Halloween decor was up high on the shelves.

Quartz has a 'Christmas Creep Calendar' that projects how soon a Christmas in July will actually happen based on current and previous stats of stores selling Christmas and people turning on Christmas lights. They predict that by the year 2120 Christmas lights will be up and on in homes across the world...which I think is great, because that's about when I usually take mine down.
