BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An early morning fire destroyed a pair of historic buildings in the Idaho mountain mining town of Mullan. The blaze at the Silver Eagle Bar and the adjoining United Steelworkers of America union hall created a glow that could be seen for miles in the dark sky. .

Both wooden structures were about a century old and had been popular meeting places for the town's residents — union workers who grew thirsty plying their trade underground in the region's mines including the Lucky Friday Mine, located just down the road.

Shoshone County Fire District 1 Chief Jim Walcker says they were completely destroyed, though nobody was injured. His agency got the fire call just before 3 a.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
