RUPERT, Idaho (AP) — A Heyburn man has been sentenced to 18 to 40 years in prison for shooting and killing another man before fleeing to Texas.

The Times-News reports that 23-year-old Glen Christopher Cruz pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in December. Prosecutors had asked for Cruz to be sentenced to 20 years to life, while his defense attorney recommended 13 to 35 years in prison.

In August 2013, 36-year-old Craig Glen Short was found dead at Cruz's house. Cruz was arrested in Edinburg, Texas in September 2013, and returned to Idaho for prosecution.
