Destructive Creations' third-person shooter has had a pretty controversial start so far and now it has quite the serious rating attached to it.

Hatred, Destructive Creations' newest (ahem) destructive creation, has raised a lot of issues since its announcement in October. The game is essentially about a sociopath who goes out of his house and decides to just murder... everyone -- it should have been titled "Mass Shooting: The Game." It doesn't matter who they are, you get points for killing any bystanders and cops in your path, which is the main objective of the game. At first, it was taken off of Steam Greenlight (and then added back on) and many players have noted that the game seems to encourage senseless violence, something video games have been getting heat from since their creation. Now, Polygon reports that Hatred will be the second game in history to get an AO (Adults Only) rating.

"Well, I'm not quite convinced why Hatred got AO rating while it lacks any sexual content, but it's still some kind of achievement to have the second game in history getting AO rating for violence and harsh language only," a Destructive Creations developer said. "Even if this violence isn't really that bad and this harsh language isn't overused."

It's still not clear the exact reasons why the ESRB has decided to give the game a AO rating, but it has since confirmed the rating so it's no mistake. Of course, this rating vastly diminishes any chance of a Hatred release on home consoles.

We'll have to wait and see if Destructive Creations decides to change Hatred to try and aim for a console release. Hatred currently has a Q2 2015 launch window for PC.
