HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — Planning officials in the central Idaho town of Hailey are recommending the number of chickens residents are allowed to keep be doubled from three to six.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the Hailey Planning and Zoning Commission also on Monday recommended expanding the permitting of beehives to business, industrial and service-commercial zones. Development Director Micah Austin recommended 10 chickens per home, but the commission cut that to six.

Chickens won't be allowed in apartments, and roosters are prohibited altogether. Beehives are allowed on lots of 8,000 square feet or larger, and must be 7 feet from property lines and 30 feet from homes.
