Hagerman Man Sentenced for Baiting Ducks

HAGERMAN, Idaho (KLIX)-The former president of the Hagerman Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will have to serve several years probation for baiting ducks. The United States Attorney announced Charles D. Steele, 48, of Hagerman has been sentenced with one years probation for violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Candy Dale  said Steele will have to pay $2,000 fine that will go to the North American Wetlands Conservation Fund Account. Steele will not be able to hunt anywhere in the United States and will have to perform 25 hours of community service.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says Steel pleaded guilty on September 25, 2012 to the charge. Steele was charged after placing significant quantities of whole corn on private farmland in Gooding County to attract waterfowl to enhance hunting opportunities.
