Sony Online Entertainment’s zombie MMO mixes the right amounts of DayZ, Left 4 Dead and ‘The Walking Dead’ to create an immense world where you can join a post-apocalyptic posse and do whatever you’d like to do.

Polygon reports that Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has come forth on the latest episode of Game Talk Live in order to officially unveil his studio’s zombie apocalypse massively multiplayer online game, H1Z1. This MMO will not have any subscriptions attached to it but it will have freemium content in the form of microtransactions.

“The H1Z1 virus devastated mankind and left nothing but death and destruction in its wake and a world nearly empty of human life where the remnants of humanity are in a fight against extinction against those infected with the virus,” Smedley told Game Talk. “It’s been 15 years since H1Z1 was first encountered and what’s left of the world before it is overrun with the Infected. Humanity has been reduced to hiding in the shadows, searching desperately for food and water and anything that can help to survive even for another day. But the Infected aren’t the only dangers in the world. Everyday life in the Apocalypse means dealing with all kinds of wild animals and the brutality of other survivors, as well as finding your next meal and a safe place to sleep.”

Medley has stated that H1Z1 can hold thousands of players on its servers, with multiple servers hosting worlds with very different established rules. Having this many players on your server means that you will have both allies, enemies, friendships and betrayals that you will encounter in the middle of a zombie-infested landscape. H1Z1 will offer a refined crafting system based on the resources and materials you find will out in the wild. You will be able to make make or alter your firearms, rig together explosives, reinforce shelters and create Molotov cocktails (which have been a staple of anti-undead weaponry since George Romero’s original ‘Night of the Living Dead’ classic).

Smedley wanted to remind players that H1Z1’s focus is on player ownership and building. He wants your gangs to establish a headquarters out of a building of your choosing, whether it be an abandoned warehouse or a house you built from scrap. If you want to be farmer Rick, an expert mechanic/driver or an expert killer, that is your choice and you can fully explore whatever you would like to do in this post-apocalyptic world.

Smedley told his interviewers at Game Talk that H1Z1 will be available in 4-6 weeks for PC via Steam Early Access for $20 and will be coming to PlayStation 4 at a later date.
