Is it August 1 yet? Almost! But while we wait (impatiently) for the release of Marvel's intergalactic superhero epic 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' today brings a new featurette exploring the background and motives of the Guardians' green-skinned and deadly assassin, Gamora.

Played in the film by Zoe Saldana, Gamora was raised by Thanos alongside Nebula (Karen Gillan) as sisters, but when Gamora came to be a certain age, she rebelled against Thanos' evil-doing and struck out on her own. As Saldana explains in this new featurette, Gamora can kick your ass, but she's got a heart of gold, and although she keeps people at arm's length, once you get to know her, she's not much different than the rest of the Guardians, who are all just looking for somewhere to belong.

One of the highlights that's been teased from the film is Gamora's fight with Nebula, which is only briefly shown here amid lots of new shots of Saldana as the fierce assassin. The showdown between Gamora and Nebula is one of the things we're most excited about, for sure.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' also stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, Vin Diesel as the voice of the tree-like Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon. The supporting cast includes Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, and Michael Rooker.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' hits theaters on August 1 -- hey, that's just a few weeks away now!
