The Gregg Allman biopic ‘Midnight Rider’ saw horrible tragedy on Feb. 20 when one camera assistant was killed and several other crew members were injured. The filmmakers have now shut down production following the accident.

While filming on tracks in Wayne County, Georgia, a freight train collided with the crew. The collision killed one female camera operator, injuring many more.

The decision to cease production came just one week after the accident. Savannah Film Office director William Hammargren received a phone call from the producers who told him that they were shutting down production. The Film Office works with production companies and filmmakers that are working on movies around the Wayne County and Savannah area.

Allegedly, according to CBS News, the crew didn’t have permission from the railroad to be filming on the tracks.

‘Midnight Rider’ was to be based on Allman’s 2012 autobiography ‘My Cross to Bear’ and was going to feature two pretty big names. William Hurt and All-American Rejects lead singer Tyson Ritter were set to play older and younger versions of Allman in the film. This wouldn’t have been Ritter’s first acting credit.

Allman was recently celebrated in a tribute show where a plethora of stars took time to honor him. Eric ChurchTrace AdkinsBrantley Gilbert and Martina McBride were the big country names that celebrated the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer during the show.
