I love a good garage sale! It's true that one mans junk is another mans treasure. If you plan on hosting a garage sale this spring you may want to think twice before you hang signs.

The city code states that all signage has to be on private property with the owner's permission.

The signs also need to be ten feet from the street pavement.

All power poles and street signs are off limits.

The law also says that if you have a sale more than ten days a year, it becomes a retail business.

Code Enforcement Officer Sean Standley explains what happens when they find illegal signs…

"Our department just takes the signs down, and then we discard them. We kind of pride ourselves on educating our citizens on the city codes, so there are no fines for this particular code at this time."
