I posted a picture on my Instagram stream last night of a questionable nature. It wasn’t obscene, rude, or NSFW, but generally considered to be “gross.” I wasn’t going to post it here but after comments from several of the staff including Brad, I’ve decided to add it.

The photo was met with a chorus of “yuck,” “eewwww,” “gross,” and “that’s nasty!”

Interestingly enough, Robbie seemed to really enjoy wearing my denture. The only reason I had my hand on his jaw was to A) keep him pointed at the camera, and B) keep him from chewing on my denture. He really wanted to chow down on it.

So what did I learn from my Bad Idea of the Day?

1. I have too much free time in the evenings.
2. Robbie trusts me too much.
3. I have some pretty deep seated issues.

All in all it was just good, silly fun. And yes, I washed and disinfected my denture before I put it back in.

Don’t judge me.

I love comic books–Spider-man’s exploits specifically–but I haven’t really read them since college. Back in the 90′s, we saw an explosion of talented artists throughout the industry and heroes, old and new, were re-imagined for this second golden age of comics. While the heroes became grittier and darker, the women became bombshells fighting crime, monsters, aliens, and villains in less and less.

I think we all started to wonder, “how does she fight crime in that?” Well, one artist named Michael Lee Lunsford decided to take a more practical approach to the female superhero costume, and actually put clothes on them.

Lunsford explains that this wasn’t some sort of moral judgement against female superheroes and their skin tight outfits, it was “an exercise in character design, attempting to clothe the heroines nearly all the way and not making them painted-on, while still keeping the look of their original costumes in some way.”

I think Lunsford succeeded admirably. I think each of these superheroes still look like heroes, and their costumes make way more sense than the revealing, skin tight outfights they currently wear in the comics.

Take a look at these side-by-side comparisons and see which ones you like better. The original DC Comics design is on the left while Lunsford’s re-imagined look is on the right. Personally, I think they all look better with pants.

Over the weekend my family got a little bigger and a little happier. I adopted a purebred Sable Border Collie named ‘Robbie.’ Robbie is 7 months old and rather timid, but he’s starting to come out of his shell and act like one of the family.

Robbie was intended to be a working dog on a ranch in Shoshone. His previous owners, the Pereira family, got him to help because Border Collies are renowned working/herding dogs. Border Collies, unlike Heelers, don’t nip or bite when herding. Instead, they crouch down, move fast, and give cattle the “Border Collie Eye.” It’s sort of like the evil eye, only less evil.

Unfortunately for the Pereira family, but fortunately for me, Robbie is a bit of a timid dog and not really cut out for working. He would much rather lay on the couch and play with the kids. Which is what I like to do! WIN/WIN!

After spending a lot of time with our neighbor dog Sam (his real name is “Tucker,” but we still call him Sam), the escape artist who lives down the street, I knew I wanted a Border Collie. My third dog, Barkley, was part Border Collie and part Golden Retriever. They are cool, quirky, fun dogs, and exceptionally intelligent.

I had been in contact with local animal shelters, but we found Robbie in a post on Craigslist. After a week-long exchange of emails, texts, photos, and phone calls, my wife and I drove up to Shoshone Saturday afternoon and brought Robbie home. We set up an area in the back of my HHR for him, but he found it more comfortable to sit in my son Jack’s car seat for the hour ride.

Over the past few days Robbie has been slowly coming out of his shell. He is truly a special doggy and we are very blessed to have him as part of the family.

I’m gonna drop a bomb on your world right now: I believe in a lot of crazy [censored], but I think Bigfoot is a load of bunk.

Today our sister station, News Radio 1310 KLIX, hosted a Bigfoot Investigator on their popular morning talk show Top Story. The investigator was cool enough to lug in multiple suitcases packed with casts of Bigfoot footprints. They ranged in size from ludicrous to tiny, and I couldn’t help but be struck by how fake they all looked.

Here are my main arguments:

1. This creature is supposedly huge. If it’s that big, how hard would it be to spot? Considering that we are encroaching further and further into wilderness areas, why haven’t we run into a herd, a pod, a gaggle of Bigfoots?
2. If you’re argument is that there are only a few of these creatures left, why are we still having sightings? Wouldn’t the race have died out by now? There has to be a healthy number to allow the species to continue to breed and populate.
3. Where are the Bigfoot bodies? These things have to die, right? Everything dies. Where are the bodies? And don’t give me any garbage about some “wildman wilderness funeral ritual.”
4. Where’s the evidence? Bring me some hair. Bring me a bag of Bigfoot scat (well, not me. Take it to a scientist. I don’t want that).
5. In 2011, Americans snapped an astonishing 80 billion photos. That’s about 255 per person, per year. By 2015 that number will grow to 105 billion photos. With the prevalence of cheap digital cameras, and cameras in everyone’s phones, where’s the good photographic evidence of Bigfoot? Heck, even my four year old knows how to take pictures with my iPhone. And some are pretty good! Where are the good, clear photos of Bigfoot?

I’m sorry. I just don’t buy into the fact that some tangent off the evolutionary tree of man or ape is living in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. We would see it. We go everywhere.

I think it’s a great story, but that’s all it is.

I noticed something else interesting about the bathroom.  There were mirrors at every, single possible angle.  There was the obligatory mirror at the sink.  There was a mirror at the bathtub, mirrors on the entry doors to the bathroom and a vanity mirror that was located directly across from the glass shower.  Yes.  You can see yourself in the shower.  Yikes!

I suppose there are people who are pretty enough to appreciate all the opportunities to look at themselves and it could be that people who can afford a room like this also have the funds to eat well and have personal trainers.

All I know?  I was in a four star hotel with a Motel 6 body.

All different kinds of creatures and characters enjoyed trick or treating on Bish’s Street this year. Everyone had great creativity on costumes. A gigantic thank you for Daniel Veley for sharing his talented and unique eye on the entire event.

Recently I found a dog wandering around my neighborhood in Buhl. Well, more aptly, he found me. I was sitting on my front steps, he came right up to me, and then walked in my house. With our neighbor’s help, we’ve walked the dog up and down surrounding streets but haven’t had any luck locating his owners. He didn’t have a collar or tags on when he found me.

Does he look familiar? Do you know where he belongs?

I call him “Sam” and he is the coolest dog I’ve met in a long, long time. I’m not sure what breed he is–I think there’s some collie mixed in him–but he’s a very handsome animal. He’s neutered, well mannered, great with little kids and pets, and very obedient.

It honestly breaks my heart to give him up. I’ve grown very attached to Sam, and I think he has grown accustomed to my family as well. He has a truly amazing personality, is very loving, and is great with my 4 year old son Jack. Unfortunately we live in a rental and my wife’s medical conditions leave us unable to keep him.

Everyone in my family loves carving pumpkins for Halloween. So much so that we actually start early and carve pumpkins almost every weekend in the month of October.

We started our yearly tradition yesterday with a white and orange pumpkins obtained from the Crismore’s Pumpkin Patch in Buhl. Everyone had a great time and we came away with two fantastic Jack O’ Lanterns.

Remember if you want your Jack O’ Lanterns to survive to Halloween, coat the insides and the cuts with a layer of Vaseline. That will help keep the moisture in the Pumpkin, and your Jack O’ Lantern looking fresh longer.

I think my family and I have been to Lagoon almost every year for the last thirteen years.  We usually go in July or August and we have a great time.  I know it’s not quite as large as Disney, Universal or one of the other major theme parks but they have some pretty great rides and it’s close to home.

It’s also easy on the budget.  If you live in Twin Falls, you could leave early in the morning, spend the entire day and return in the evening and not have to spend the night if you don’t want to.

As many times as we’ve been to Lagoon, I have never visited in September.  After my trip this weekend, I’m not sure that I will ever do it any other way.  Here’s why:

1.  It’s not so dang hot.  It can be miserable standing in 100 degree heat while you wait on line for an hour.

2.  There are no lines in September.  I’m exaggerating a bit but the wait is considerably reduced.  Just look at my photo gallery and you’ll notice that there aren’t as many people as you’d see during peak season.  There were several times where my son and I were able to get off a ride and casually walk back around to wind up at the front of the line again.  Even the newer, more popular rides had very little wait time.

3.  Frightmares makes it more fun.  During September and October, Lagoon is all about Halloween.  It’s like getting two theme parks for the price of one.  Not only can you enjoy all the rides, Lagoon also hosts several haunted houses you can go through with your family.  Each haunted house comes with it’s very own “scare meter” so you can choose the right scare factor for your kids.

Bottom line:  If you ever make plans to go to Lagoon, consider September.  You won’t regret it.

Okay.  The headline is slightly exaggerated.  But we do have a missing turtle on our hands.  Today on the morning show, we received a call about a missing tortoise.  At first, I thought it was a little weird but in my years working here, we’ve had missing dogs, cats, horses, milk-goats and an ostrich;  we even had a moose wondering around South-park several years ago.  Why not a tortoise?

Have you seen this tortoise?  It’s name is Sheldon and it was lost around Polk and Filer near Harrison Elementry.  Shelly’s owner really misses her and would appreciate your help.

Take Nate Bird from our friends down the hall at KOOL 96.5.  All I had to say to get him to grope Jay from KMVT was… “Hey Nate… I dare you.”

For some unknown reason Buhl McDonald’s General Manager Katie Small allowed me to run the register and make cheeseburgers during Tuesday’s McCash for Kids fundraiser. During that time I managed to add a McCafe to a kid’s Happy Meal (kids need caffeine, right?), and have a new respect for McDonald’s employees.

Katie walked me through the entire process of assembling a standard McDonald’s Cheeseburger, from toasting the buns, adding the mustard and ketchup, the cheese, and how to properly wrap a burger the “McDonald’s Way.” I was slow and fairly incompetent on the line, but once the kitchen hit peak they powered through like a machine.

Hygiene was extremely important in the kitchen. So much so that each employee must enter their number into the computerized hand washing station that instructed how long to lather and rinse. Everything has a very specific way of being cleaned and manged.

I really enjoyed my time at the Buhl McDonald’s during McCash for Kids. My thanks to Katie an her cool staff for letting us come hang out!

Most of the time I think my wife and I have really big hearts, especially for animals, but sometimes I think we’re sort of dumb.

Last night my family was playing in the front yard when a rogue puppy bounded out from behind the neighbor’s house and joined in the family fun. No one knew where he came from, and none of our neighbors recognized him. My wife and I’s solution? Let him stay until we find where he belongs.

Note to self: puppy teeth are sharp and a puddle of puppy whiz is cold in the middle of the night.

He was found on 14th street in Buhl. He hasn’t been neutered, his tail isn’t docked, and he still has his dew claws. He’s super friendly and loves people and other dogs. I know this little guy belongs to someone and needs to go home.

I’m not sure what his name is, but we call him ‘Rocket.’

If you’re his owner, please contact me so we can get him home. As someone who’s lost dogs, I know how devastating it can be. I can’t imagine a little kid crying because puppy didn’t come home last night.

I promise I won’t take him to the pound ever. If I can’t locate his owner, the little guy has a home with me, or I will find a place he can belong.

UPDATE (August 3rd @ 5pm) – In an odd twist, I received a phone call from a woman named Brandy who is not Rocket’s current owner, but his original. She recently lost Rocket’s mom and her kids are devastated. She’s coming tomorrow to take the puppy back to his home.

In one of those odd quirks of life, Brandy’s kids begged her to keep one of the puppies. Now they get to.

Rocket is going home!

UPDATE #2 (August 4th @ 9am) – Rocket was just picked up and is heading home. I miss him already.

UPDATE #3 (August 4th @ 7pm) – Brandy and her family brought Rocket back for a visit, and to say thanks for keeping an eye on him for a few days.

I’m so happy that Rocket could be re-united with his family and bring them so much joy. When I saw how he reacted when Brandy picked him up, I knew he was going to the right place with the right people.

Rocket’s name has been changed to ‘Miracle.’ That proves how much this amazing little dog means to this family.

Oh, and Miracle is a girl.
