If your name is Norman Bates or Michael Myers, you probably are used to the quips and odd looks, especially when Halloween rolls around.

So what if your parents named you after a fictional freak? It’s what you do with your name that counts, and we’re sure you’re a very nice person.

But in case you’ve been wondering, according to 2014 data from Whitepages a lot of people share names made popular in horror novels and movies. For instance, some 4,000 people in the U.S. use the name Michael Myers, made famous – err, infamous – by that creepy guy with the deadpan mask in John Carpenter’s movie Halloween.

More than 2,000 share the name of real live master horror novelist Stephen King, and close to 100 are named Norma Bates – you know, that shy, knife-wielding motel manager with the mother complex. There are even several thousand people with the name Hannibal (Silence of the Lambs) and close to a dozen with the name Jack Torrence (The Shining). And there are some 500 people who use the name Frankenstein.

Women are not forgotten on the list. Several thousand women have been given the name Carrie (Carrie) and at least a couple of dozen women go by the name of Annie Wilkes (Misery).

So what’s in a name? You tell us.

Do you know of anyone with the same name of a fictional horror character? How about on the other end of things, someone who shares a name with a noble character, fictional or not? Let us know in the comments section below.
