OROFINO, Idaho (AP) —Emergency responders in northern Idaho transported two 18-year-old women to a hospital after one of four dogs in the vehicle jumped into the driver's lap and the vehicle crashed.

Idaho State Police say driver Brianna Nichols of Peck and passenger Morganne Ranies of Orofino were taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino following the crash at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A hospital spokesman says neither woman was listed as a patient on Monday.

Police say Nichols was driving west on U.S. Highway 12 in a 1994 Jeep Cherokee but lost control and headed for a guardrail when one of the dogs jumped into her lap. Police say she overcorrected and crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking an embankment before coming to a stop in the eastbound lane.
