This is so sad! I hate hearing about families being ripped off.. especially so close to the holidays.

A Boise family of five was working with a real estate agent before wiring $80k for a down payment on a new house. When separate wiring instructions came through after they'd already made their wire, they knew something was wrong.

It turns out, someone hacked their real estate agent's email and sent them fraudulent wiring instructions. By the time they realized what had happened, their down payment was gone and since it was done via wire, there will be almost no chance in getting their money back.

This is a more common scam than some think. The title and escrow company suggest that customers confirm wire instructions verbally or face to face and to consider using a cashier’s check instead. This Boise family learned that the hard way.

A Go Fund me has been set up to help the Clayton's.
