Fortnite Might Get Crafty on Next-Gen Consoles

More news about Epic Games' upcoming multiplayer survival game, Fortnite, suggests that we might see a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

According to an interview with Fortnite's lead designer Darren Sugg on GameSpot, the PC-exclusive Fortnite might not be fully PC-exclusive. It's well within the realm of possibility for the game and its free-to-play model to appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

The reason for the push for Fortnite on PC was because it would be quicker for Epic to push out updates. At the time of the game's conception, the team thought that PC would be the preferred platform for their model. But since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been released, next-gen releases have become more viable since they're more free-to-play friendly.

"Things have changed from the console space and have adapted to the new market, which is cool," Sugg said. "So because of those adaptations the future for where Fortnite ends up is not set in stone. I think there's lots of possibilities about how you can interact with Fortnite on different platforms."

Although the possibility is there, this isn't meant to be a confirmation of next-gen versions of Fortnite being developed. The free-to-play multiplayer game won't be available until 2015, but an invite-only alpha will be coming down the chute later this year.
