RUPERT, Idaho (AP) — The former Minidoka County sheriff who pleaded guilty to using county credit cards to buy gas for a female county employee testified he had a romantic relationship with the employee. The Time-News reports that Kevin Halverson testified Friday to the relationship at a preliminary hearing for Alicia Daniel.

Halverson pleaded guilty in July to felony misuse of public funds after buying less than $300 worth of gas for Daniel. Daniel is charged with felony forgery. Prosecutors say she falsified work timecards.

Halverson testified he met Daniel in Boise on two occasions when Halverson was attending conferences. Daniel called in sick on those days. Prosecutors allege she falsified her time cards and misused sick leave, costing the county just over $2,000.
