Former Idaho Senator Running for Lt. Governor

Benito Baeza

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A former state senator, representative and candidate for public schools chief is running as a Democrat for Idaho lieutenant governor. Bert Marley of McCammon announced his bid for the part-time post yesterday. Marley was in the Idaho Legislature from 1998 to 2006. That’s the year he ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for superintendent of public instruction against Jana Jones. Now, Marley says he wants to challenge Lt. Gov. Brad Little, the Republican in the lieutenant governor position since his appointment by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter in 2009. Marley, a former lobbyist for the Idaho Education Association teachers union, says he’ll coordinate his campaign with Democratic gubernatorial candidate A.J. Balukoff. Marley was a teacher for 23 years at Marsh Valley High School, where he taught German and American government.
