RUPERT, Idaho (KTVB) -- A former Minidoka County deputy who ran for county sheriff is facing a charge of felony burglary and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The Times-News reports that authorities arrested 51-year-old Darrell James Broner on Saturday.

Authorities say Broner went to Minidoka County Sheriff's Capt. Daniel Guy Kindig's residence where he knocked on the door and, after a brief conversation, punched Kindig and broke his nose.

Authorities say Broner then entered Kindig's home.

Broner was being held in the Mini-Cassia Criminal Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

He's scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.

Broner in the May Republican primary ran unsuccessfully for Minidoka County sheriff.
