Forest Wood Permits Now Available in Southern Idaho

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- Need wood? The Sawtooth National Forest fuelwood permits are on sale for most parts of southern Idaho.

The SNF announced permits will be available starting May 31 in the Ketchum Ranger District and Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The cost of a single permit is $12.50 per cord with a two cord minimum and limit of 10 cords per household. You can used the permits in the Sawtooth, Boise or Payette National Forest.

When you go to cut the wood you will need to follow the rules of the road on forest land, unless it is specifically stated otherwise in the permit. The Forest Service says now is the best time to cut the wood when the snow is melted because later there could be restrictions on cutting later on in the season. Also, some forest roads may still be fairly muddy and you could get stuck this time of year.
