Five Twin Falls Phrases That Would Cause Panic Anywhere Else
Here are five phrases that are uttered frequently around the Twin Falls area that might cause panic if they were said anywhere else.
1. “Hey look – There’s a guy jumping off the bridge.”
If you utter this phrase anywhere else, folks would be burning up the 911 lines. At the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, it’s just another day of BASE jumping. It’s so fun to watch these guys and gals jump.
2. “Let the 14-year-old drive”
I moved here from the Portland area when I was 15 and I couldn’t believe that all my friends were already driving with their learner’s permits. Most states don’t allow driving until the age of 15 and some even make you wait until you’re 16. We can thank our agricultural community for a state that allows kids to start driving at the age of 14.
3. “Honey – Grab my gun.”
I understand that not everyone is comfortable around guns. That’s perfectly fine. But in Idaho, we appreciate our 2nd Amendment rights and responsibly exercise them. Whether it’s a hunter or someone carrying for protection, it's nothing out of the ordinary to see a responsible gun owner in Idaho.
4. “Mom – I’m dating a Burley Cheerleader”
If you take this phrase to any other city or state, I could imagine it might cause mom or dad to wonder... But in Twin Falls, it just means your kid is dating a young lady from our friendly neighboring town of Burley about 40 miles to the east.
5. “Let’s go swim with some dinosaurs.”
Okay… While they aren’t technically dinosaurs, sturgeons are prehistoric fish that have existed for more than 120 million years. They are bottom-dwellers and not predatory in nature, but the thought of swimming with an animal that can live to be more than 100 years old and can grow up to 12-feet long would probably make a few folks think twice about getting in the water.
