BOISE COUNTY, Idaho (KTVB) -- We may be in October, but fire season isn't over just yet. The Walker Fire burning in Boise County expanded overnight, but thankfully has been pushing away from neighborhoods and homes.

The Walker Fire burning in the Grimes Creek Area has caused firefighters to issue a recommended evacuation for residents in the Macks Creek, Wolf Creek, and Pine Creek areas. Crews have been busy working the south side of the fire to keep the flames from spreading to nearby properties.

So far, those lines have held up. Crews are battling the flames from the air and on the ground, but getting the right resources is proving to be a big challenge. Firefighters say it's a little unusual to have a fire of this magnitude at this time of the year.So far this fall, the state of Idaho has seen an unusual warm spell with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal and it's having an effect on fire season.

A rough estimate from fire managers has around 3,400 acres scorched. The fire has destroyed four structures, including three homes. The cause of this fire is still under investigation, but because there was no lightning in the area Saturday night, investigators believe it could be human-caused.

Fire managers say there's a low probability the Walker Fire will get to Idaho City. Meanwhile, any estimate for containment of the fire is still a ways off. Evacuations, road closures and national forest closures remain in effect.
