SHOSHONE, Idaho (KLIX) – Fire crews are fighting a blaze that started about 10:30 a.m. today near Shoshone.

The blaze, called the Transfer Station Fire, has burned about 10 acres on land west of U.S. Highway 93 about a mile north of Shoshone, said Kelsey Brizendine, fire information officer with the Bureau of Land Management. Six engines, two tankers, and a single-engine air tanker are on scene. Investigators also are on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire.

“We haven’t had any lightning in the area for a while, so it’s likely human-caused,” she said. “But we can’t yet determine that.”

Multiple agencies are fighting the fire, including the BLM, U.S. Forest Service and Shoshone Rural Fire Department.

“It’s only about 10 acres because everyone responded so quickly,” Brizendine said. “There is a structure nearby, but it’s not threatened at this time.”

No estimated time for containment or control of the fire has been scheduled at this time. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
