‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot Getting a Touch-Up From ‘Dark Shadows’ Writer

Fantastic Four Reboot
Marvel

Oh, good — the guy who wrote two of the worst movies last year is “polishing” the script for Josh Trank‘s ‘Fantastic Four‘ reboot. Seth Grahame-Smith must have impressed someone at Fox because they’ve just hired him to work his, uh, magic (?) on ‘Fantastic Four.’

THR reports that Fox has brought in Seth Grahame-Smith to polish up the ‘Fantastic Four’ script for Josh Trank. Trank is following up his hit debut ‘Chronicle’ by rebooting the comic book property, which was once made into two (two) not-so-great films starring Jessica Alba and Chris Evans. Little is known about the plot of the reboot, though it’s said to delve more deeply into the comic mythology while remaining “grounded.”

Grahame-Smith is the author of ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ and wrote last year’s ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘ and ‘Dark Shadows,’ two of the worst, most tone-deaf genre films of 2012. Obviously, the powers that be at Fox think he’s something special, so they’ve given him the keys to make ‘Fantastic Four’ a little more special.

The original script was penned by Jeremy Slater, a writer with no previous credits to his name, calling to mind last year’s ‘Prometheus,’ which was originally written by Jon Spaihts, but was later re-written by Damon Lindelof. It might be that Fox wants a more familiar, genre-friendly name to go with their familiar, genre title. But have they actually seen Grahame-Smith’s films?

‘Fantastic Four’ currently has no cast attached and is set for a 2015 release. That’s more than enough time for at least five more re-writes.
