This is the stuff that makes me marvel at the science.  And I'm in awe about how often science fiction turns into science fact.

Does anyone remember the Six Million Dollar Man?  He had a bionic implant in one of his eyes that give him extraordinary eyesight.

While the science has a long way to go before we are using cybernetic implants to enhance the human body, there are some amazing things happening.

Like this procedure where they take a sliver of tooth, drill a hole in it, insert a lens and surgically implant it into a human eyeball, restoring a portion of the patient’s sight.

Here's an animated depiction of how it works

In the end you have sight that's at least partially restored.

Check out this trailer for a program on the BBC that features people who are having sight restored by this amazing surgery.
