Turtle Rock Studios has two super exciting announcements about its upcoming game, Evolve -- you can play it solo, and there's a match-3 mobile app for it.

It may be a little weird to think about playing Evolve solo since, if you're playing as a hunter, you're going to have to rely on the AI to help you defeat the monster, but it's definitely something you can accomplish. In the video above, you can watch as 2K's Production Assistant, Scott James, play offline in solo mode to figure out how you should go about doing it. James plays as the monster for the first half of the video and then as a hunter for the second half.

Here are some things you should know about solo mode:

  • You play completely offline. You do not need one ounce of WiFi to enjoy solo evacuation or defend matches.
  • You can play either the hunter or the monster side.
  • When you play as the hunters, you can switch between the different hunters in your party so you're not forced to play only one person.
  • Which is good because Val dies a lot.
  • When playing solo, achievements and unlocked abilities carryover online.
  • This is a great way to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of each monster and hunter.

It seems that this is a pretty good addition to Evolve since there are times when we have to (gasp) go without an Internet connection, but also because it rounds out the game for players who don't necessarily always want to be playing with other people. This mode is great for pushing characters to their limits to see just how much they can do without getting yelled at by a teammate for going ham. Solo mode is great for trying to discover hunter team combinations based on the information you gather about each persons' strengths and weaknesses.

Now, on to the second matter of business -- the tie-in Evolve game for mobile devices. The game will be called Evolve: Hunters Quest and will be a match-3 puzzle/combat game. There will be over 100 missions for players to complete that revolve around the Evolve universe.

Turtle Rock Studios had the following to say about Evolve: Hunters Quest:

"Throughout the missions, players must match three tokens of the same color to unleash devastating attacks on their enemies, fill up energy bars to activate Hunters' special abilities, and earn Mystery Points to level up their characters."

One of the coolest things is that, for players who have Evolve (regardless of console), Hunters Quest will link up to the main game and expand it while you're on the go. You can apply your Hunters Quest-earned mastery points in the real game on any platform as well as unlock game art and watch replays of your own multiplayer matches.

You can check out the launch trailer below for Evolve: Hunters Quest, which is out now for select mobile devices. Don't forget, Evolve's hunt begins on Feb. 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
