The College of Southern Idaho’s Community Education Center is offering the
non-credit courses, Judo for Beginners and Advanced Judo, taught by Bryan Matsuoka and Brian Harmison,
both beginning on September 4 at the College of Southern Idaho.
Judo for Beginners will cover basic Judo fundamentals, traditions and history. Students will
learn-by-doing break falls, throwing, and mat or ground techniques, as well as submission holds. Students will
also be given opportunities to participate in local tournaments and lessons from guest teachers of the USA &
Japan Elite Roster.
Judo for Beginners is recommended for students eight and older, children that are seven years old
can participate with a study-buddy who may be a parent, responsible friend or sibling who is also registered
for the class.
Judo for Beginners will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6-7:30 pm, September 4-December 21, in the CSI Student Recreation Center, room 304. The cost to register for the class is $70, plus a $20 regimental fee. Students may begin in this class anytime during the scheduled dates.
Advanced Judo is designed for continuing students who are interested in self-defense, recreational
activity, competition and rank advancement. This class will enable students to continue their study and
cumulative learning of throwing, pinning and ground techniques, submission holds and arm locks, formal
judo kata and lifestyle. Instructor approval for enrollment is required.
Advanced Judo will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 6-7:30 pm, and Saturdays,
from 9-11 am, from September 4-December 21 in the CSI Student Recreation Center, room 304. The cost to
register for the class is $80, plus a $20 gi rental. Late registration will be allowed for the course.
