The College of Southern Idaho will hold its 47th annual commencement for graduates at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17. Former Wendell resident Elaine Ambrose, an author and publisher who now lives in Eagle, Idaho, will be the keynote speaker.

After graduating with honors with a journalism degree from the University of Idaho, Ambrose became Idaho’s first female newscaster when she worked at KMVT Television in Twin Falls in the early 1970’s. Later, she became the associate editor of the Magic Valley and Boise Magazines. She started Mill Park Publishing in 2003 and has published several nationally acclaimed books including her bestseller, ‘Menopause Sucks.’

According to the CSI Registrar’s office, nearly 1400 students have filed applications for graduation. Some of those are completing the requirements for two or three degrees or certificates. More than 400 graduates typically choose to take part in the commencement exercises. The number for the 2012 event was 442. The exact number will not be known until the evening of the program.

CSI graduates are being asked this year to try to limit their number of guests in the gym to no more than four. Guests should plan to find seats before 7 p.m. as it is often very crowded. A reception with refreshments catered by Aramark Food service will be available to everyone in the Taylor Building Cafeteria immediately following the commencement program, which will conclude between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
