East Idaho Police Get Trade Deal for Rifles

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — A southeast Idaho police department is getting a discount on 10 new assault rifles by trading confiscated, turned-in or donated guns to a firearms maker in Boise. The Idaho State Journal reports in a story on Wednesday that the Pocatello Police Department is getting a $3,600 discount from Primary Weapons Systems for the custom-made assault rifles. Police Capt. Roger Schei says the rifles are made to fit the police department's specific needs.

Schei says that means the rifles are designed for officers responding to active-shooters, such as a bank shootout or hostage situation, where accuracy is needed. The Pocatello City Council approved the transaction.
