IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- Two people were killed and a third person injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning, Idaho State Police said. The crashed happened just after 4 a.m. about ten miles south of Idaho Falls. Police say 29-year-old Cindy Nicholls, of Rigby, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when she crashed head-on into a car driven by 67-year-old Jalene Evans, of Idaho Falls. Both vehicles went off the right shoulder of the road into the median where Nicholls' car caught fire.

Nicholls and Evans were both pronounced dead at the scene police said. A third vehicle, a pickup truck hauling a cattle trailer, attempted to avoid the crash and also went off the shoulder of the road. The trailer overturned, causing the pickup to roll. The driver of the pickup was taken to an Idaho Falls hospital. Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the crash. The northbound lanes of I-15 were closed for about six hours while the crash was investigated and crews cleared the scene.
