Eagle Island State Park Set To Reopen Saturday, No More Norovirus

KTVB

EAGLE (KTVB) — The Eagle Island State Park is set to reopen Saturday after officials deemed it free of the norovirus that sickened swimmers earlier this month.

More than 100 people reported falling ill after a visit to to the area, and testing identified the virus as the likely culprit. Eagle Island State Park was shut down July 14.

But officials with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Central District Health Department and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality announced Friday that the waters were safe for visitors again. The lake was drained and refilled during the closure.

Germs can live in all streams and lakes. CHDC officials reminded visitors to do their part to keep the water clean, and avoid swimming while sick or swallowing water from a lake or river while swimming.
