TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – If you didn’t make enough money in 2015 to file a tax return, you can still receive a refund of the grocery tax credit.

The credit is meant to offset the tax on groceries and is $100 for most Idaho residents, plus $100 for each of their dependents.

“Because you’ve paid taxes on your food we try to make it fair for everyone,” Sharon Matthies, e-filing coordinator with the Idaho State Tax Commission, told NewsRadio1310.

Last year about 64,000 residents who weren’t required to file a tax return filed for a grocery credit refund. You must have lived in Idaho for all of 2015 to qualify.

There are two forms: Form 24 for those ages 65 and older, and Form 40 for everyone else.

Those 65 and older receive an additional $20. If you were in jail, received food stamps or were in the country illegally for part of the year, however, your refund will be prorated to exclude months those conditions applied.
