Just so we go in to this article with no pretense: I hate the heat... no, it's worse than that. I despise the heat. But can the heat make you crazy?

When the thermometer climbs above 83 degrees, I'm miserable. I can't function. I'm exhausted all the time. I sweat buckets and get physically sick to mys stomach. And I'm not alone.

But summer heat can actually make people go crazy.

A 2011 study by the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital found that even mild dehydration could affect a person's cognitive ability and mood. A loss of 1 percent body mass via exercise-induced sweating decreased their cognitive performance and increased levels of anxiety.

Dramatic overheating can also lead to heatstroke. Heatstroke symptoms progress from confusion and irritability to hallucinations, violent behavior, and delirium.

There are also certain neurological and and psychiatric medications that have properties which inhibit the body's ability to perspire and increasing the risk of heatstroke. Many of these medications are used to treat schizophrenia, depression, and Parkinson's disease.

Summer heat can do some strange things to the human body, but it can also kill you.
