KETCHUM, Idaho (KLIX) – The Deer Creek Trail system, which has been closed to wheeled traffic for the past three years, is now open.

It is one of the last trail systems to be rehabilitated by the Ketchum Ranger District after the 2013 Beaver Creek Fire. According to a new release issued Monday, temporary closures of the trails may still happen from time to time. Users are asked to use caution while recreating as there will still be traffic, crews, and heavy equipment in the area.

There will continue to be work in this area through the fall of 2016 and into the summer 2017 to restore stream, riparian and floodplain resources along Deer Creek; realign a portion of Deer Creek road out of the floodplain; aid in the restoration of upland vegetation; treat invasive plant species; support additional recreational improvements dispersed campgrounds; facilitate long-term access into the Deer Creek watershed; and plant white bark pine seedlings, an Endangered Species Act candidate species, to accelerate regeneration of stands burned in the 2013 Beaver Creek wildfire.
