CSI Planetarium to Undergo Major Update

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The Faulkner Planetarium at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls is scheduled to close in late September so a new system can be installed that can project images on the entire 50-foot dome.

The Times-News reports that the planetarium is scheduled to reopen Nov. 19 with a Digistar 5 projection system that's replacing a system dating to the planetarium's opening in 1995.

Planetarium manager Rick Greenawald says the new system can make audience members feel as if they're flying up to a star or standing on another planet. The $580,000 cost is coming from the CSI Foundation and the college's plant facility fund.
