UPDATE, 4:45 p.m. Friday:

The BLM is saying that containment of the Salvage Fire, which started about noon on Friday and is being wind driven, is expected to be contained by 8 p.m. Saturday. Crews expect to have the blaze controlled by 8 p.m. Sunday.

BLM says the approximate acreage burned so far is 1,773.

Besides rural fire departments, the fire is being fought by 11 engines, two dozers, two water tenders, three single-engine air tankers, one heavy air tanker, one air attack, one lead plane and one helicopter.

“The aircraft were able to knock down most of the active fire on the south side with several retardant drops,” according to a BLM news release. “Engine crews, with the help of the dozers, are working to create and secure the fire lines along the west and east sides. Crews were able to tie the north side of the fire into the Gooding Canal.”

UPDATE, 3 p.m. Friday:

WENDELL, Idaho (KLIX) – A fire that broke out early Friday afternoon about 2 miles northeast of Wendell has spread to almost 2,500 acres, according to fire authorities at the scene.

Several area resources have been called to fight the blaze, including the Bureau of Land Management, Gooding City Fire Department, and the rural fire departments of Wendell and Jerome, among other agencies.

Cause of the fire is yet unknown, says BLM spokesman Ryan Berlin. Location of the blaze is near milepost 103 on Highway 46.

He said the fire is blocked by a canal, but if flames jump it homes could potentially be in danger.

Crews are working the south flank of the blaze, where flames are most active. No time for containment is yet projected, Berlin said.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
