The following was issued by Idaho State Police:

On July 19, 2015, at approximately 7:47 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of South 300 West and Bob Barton Road in Jerome County. Cynthia Martinez, 19, of Jerome, was traveling north on South 300 West in a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. Alec Humbach, 19, of Jerome, was traveling west on Bob Barton Road in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma. Martinez failed to stop for the stop sign, and the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles came to rest in a field off the northwest corner of the intersection.

 

Martinez and her passenger Dakota Cortez, 19, were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls. Martinez's second passenger Jaqueline Martinez, 15, was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Humbach succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

 

All occupants of the Hyundai Elantra were wearing seatbelts. Humbach was not wearing a seatbelt. Bob Barton Road and South 300 West were closed one mile in each direction from the intersection for approximately six hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

 

This crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
