BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise couple is suing a former Ada County sheriff's deputy in connection with their arrest on marijuana trafficking charges four years ago. The Idaho Statesman reports that Brian J. McNelis and Leslie D. White filed the lawsuit against Stephen Craig in federal court, asking for damages in an amount to be proven at trial.

The couple was arrested in 2010 after police said they found 27 marijuana plants, scales and packaging material in their home. The charges were dismissed after a judge found that Craig lied to a judge in his application for a search warrant when he claimed he'd found marijuana clippings in their garbage. Craig was fired from the Ada County sheriff's office in 2011. He didn't return a phone message requesting his comment.
