TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Progress of the downtown renovation project and the city’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2018 will be among the topics discussed at this evening’s City Council meeting.

The Urban Renewal Agency will update the council on the downtown project. Currently, work is being done from Shoshone Street to Fairfield Street, and includes, among other things, improved infrastructure, new curbs and gutters, and light posts.

Several additional blocks also will be improved as part of the project, which is scheduled for completion in October to coincide with the opening of the new City Hall.

The city also will have a final discussion this evening on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2018 before City manager Travis Rothweiler recommends the new budget.

According to information on the agenda, the council already shared its budget priorities to include in its long-term plan and the new fiscal budget, including the following:

Personnel

  • Continued support for providing a competitive compensation model for all employees
  • Support for employee development and training to improve employee knowledge, skills, and Abilities
  • Continue to build partnerships with public and private partners

General

  • Implementation of our various plans, including Strategic Plan, Water Facility Plan,
  • Comprehensive Plan, Parks Master Plan, and Transportation Master Plan Finding technological improvements
  • Continue to expand community branding, talent attraction, work force attraction and business retention

Capital

  • Improving existing sidewalks in disrepair and adding sidewalks where there are none
  • Extending the City’s trail system
  • Quality infrastructure, including streets, water lines, water storage, sewer, and pressurized irrigation
  • Finding a way to develop a City recreation center

Programs & Services

  • Public transportation, particularly for seniors
  • Continued development of our GIS program
