Comic-Con 2014: ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Panel Bids Farewell To The Fans

Comic-Con 2014 Sons of Anarchy Panel Recap
FX

The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ will make their final ride on FX this fall, and Comic-Con 2014 is SAMCRO’s first stop on the tour. With the seventh and final season of FX’s road-rashing biker drama ahead, find out what series creator Kurt Sutter and the cast had to say and show from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7 with our full recap of today’s hard-hitting panel!

  • Final ‘Sons of Anarchy’ season, here we go! Our moderator introduces the cast (sans Charlie Hunnam), along with an EW poll prediction of what percentage of fans believe they won’t survive the final season. Poor Theo Rossi, as 86% of fans believe Juice won’t make it. “I was expecting at least 95,” quips the actor later.
  • With Hunnam unable to attend the panel in person, the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star at least showed up in a brief video addressing the fans at Comic-Con 2014 (Update: now below!). Laying in a towel and being massaged by a similarly-garbed Mark Boone Jr., with Tommy Flanagan on manicure and Kim Coates sheepishly serving drinks, Hunnam thanked the crowd for their support, and bid the show farewell.
  • The panel kept light on spoilers (outside the footage shown), though Sutter jokingly confirmed that Tig would be getting some action this season, with most evidence pointing to the return of ‘Justified’ star Walton Goggins’ transgender Venus Van Dam. Katey Sagal previewed that Gemma will become “more dimensional than she’s ever been” when it comes to protecting her family, also adding of Courtney Love’s impending appearance that “Courtney looked very different than what we’ve come to know as Courtney.”
  • Regretfully, Bobby’s Elvis impersonation won’t make it into the final season, though Sutter had previously looked to include the bit in season 6.
  • After finally getting the footage to work, we were treated to the initial minutes of September 7’s 105-minute premiere. We won’t spoil everything, but Jax enacts some gruesome retribution on a Neo-Nazi in prison, while Gemma and the others take care of a somber Abel and Thomas. Tig and Bobby ride with the Grim Bastards, while Nero reluctantly settles into his new role with the Mayans. And lest we forget, Unser leaves flowers at Tara’s grave, while Lyla presides over the new Diosa.
  • Sutter clarified that there would be no spinoffs to the series, though he remains in “serious discussion” with FX for a “First 9” prequel miniseries with Clay and John Teller, sometime after Sutter has gotten away from the material.
  • That said, we can expect a “Sons of Anarchy: Bratva” novel to hit stores in fall 2014. The story will focus on the aftermath of season 4, with Jax, Opie and Chibs doing “gnarly things” with the Russians.
  • Sutter previewed that Jax would be more singularly focused and bent on revenge than in any season prior.
  • Asked what the cast thought of the most shocking moments from the series, we heard answers that ranged from Sagal holding a gun to a baby’s head, to the first time Theo Rossi saw Walton Goggins in costume as Venus. Most quickly changed their tune however, upon being reminded of the burning of Tig’s daughter.

Well, what say you? Are you excited for ‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, by all we’ve learned from the Comic-Con 2014 panel? Watch Charlie Hunnam’s message to fans below, and tell us what you want to see from the new season in the comments!
