We were saddened when the Earthbound-inspired Citizens of Earth failed to meet its Kickstarter crowdfunding goal. Luckily, Atlus has stepped forward to deliver.

Citizens of Earth is strange, quirky and perfectly continues in the footsteps of the beloved Super Nintendo gem, Earthbound. Citizens puts you in the shoes of the newly-elected Vice President of the World, where the world has gone to hell the night after your election. You must recruit the 40 other sane citizens left on Earth to fight to set things right, including your kooky family members. In Suikoden-like fashion, you can recruit nearly every non-player character you come across that has an actual name.

Since you're the Vice President of Earth, you have sleazed your way to candidacy and will continue to do so as the leader of a ragtag group of weird, RPG warriors, which means you're going to delegate the hard work to your party members whenever you can. We were very disparaged when we saw that Citizens' Kickstarter goal wasn't met, and assumed the game wasn't going to happen. Luckily the good, Persona-making folk at Atlus stepped in to continue the project.

Atlus is planning to release Citizens of Earth as a digital-only title for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and PC sometime late in 2014.
