Sometimes we do not treat our pets as well as we should. Pet owners all across the world have been guilty at one point or another for cutting corners on pet food and other supplies as a means to making pet ownership a little more cost friendly.

However, people living in Arizona seem to really know how to treat their furry friends. Four cities from the state ranked within the top 10 cities with the highest average spending on pets, according to a recent analysis of transactions by the analysis firm Bundle.

The report finds that Scottsdale, Arizona has the highest average spending on pets, at nearly $50 per month. The people of Durham, North Carolina ranked second, spending nearly $40 per month.

Cities in Texas, Virginia, Colorado, and Tennessee were all among those who spent the most on their pets.

According to figures from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, basic expenses such as food and medical for a medium sized dog can cost approximately $695 a year, and even a cat can cost its owner nearly $670 per year.

Americans are expected to spend nearly $53 billion on their pets in 2012, up from almost $49 billion in 2010.

The ASPCA adds that if you’re looking for a pet that doesn’t cost a fortune to care for, you should look into getting a fish.
